This lesson is designed to support student understanding of synthesizing information for understanding. Students begin by sorting words into two categories: compound words and not compound words.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on synthesizing about events and characters within a story. In the first instructional block, students make conclusions about events after reading a paragraph.
The second instructional block focuses on making conclusions about characters after putting ideas together.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and put student learning into context.
