TEKS 5.8B: Electrical Energy and Circuits
Electrical Energy in Circuits
About this lesson
Learning Target: I can demonstrate my knowledge of the requirements for a functioning electrical circuit.
Focuses On:
- What makes a circuit complete/closed
- Manipulating circuits
Builds On:
4.8C:
demonstrate and describe how electrical energy travels in a closed path that can produce light and thermal energy
Next Level:
Circuits will not be taught again until high school level science courses.

This lesson is designed to deepen student understanding of the requirements for a functional electrical circuit.
The lesson begins with a review of the essential components needed to build a complete circuit, including the role of switches and multiple outputs. Students will then progress to manipulating more complex circuit designs with various loops to complete specific tasks.
This lesson builds upon students' foundational circuit knowledge from standard 4.8C. This topic will not be formally revisited until high school-level science courses.
