Read More:
This lesson is designed to highlight the differences between parentheses and brackets. It gives students ample opportunity to practice solving problems with both parentheses and brackets.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson are parentheses and brackets.
The first instructional block focuses on giving students the opportunity to see expressions and identify the operation inside the parentheses as the first step in the order of operations.
The second instructional block has students focusing on brackets. Students will identify parentheses as the first part of the expression that has to be simplified and then move to simplifying inside of the brackets.
This work is critical in building the foundation for all upper level mathematics.
