This lesson is designed to support student understanding of the central idea and supporting evidence in an informational text. Students begin by using the correct homophone in a paragraph and finding text evidence to prove an important idea in a text.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on reading informational texts and determining the central idea and supporting evidence. In the first instructional block students read informational text and determine the central idea of the text.
In the second instructional block students find text evidence that support a given central idea.
Informational texts are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow students to practice the skill in context.
