This lesson is designed to give students to chance to practice finding text evidence that will support a claim or central idea. Students begin by creating a sentence from scrambled words and reviewing how evidence can be used to support a specific idea.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on identifying text evidence in various passages that support the larger idea in a text. In the first instructional block students determine if evidence statements from a text support or do not support given ideas. Students must also match evidence to the idea it supports.
In the second instructional block students much search an entire passage to find text evidence to support a given idea.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to provide practice and analysis.
