        This lesson is designed to support student understanding of evaluating details in a text to determine key ideas. Students begin by classifying sentences and differentiating between relevant and irrelevant details.


        The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on determining key ideas and details that support those ideas. In the first instructional block students find the key ideas in various paragraphs in a passage. Students also find the key idea for an entire passage.
