This lesson is designed to support student understanding of adages and the meaning of adages used in texts. Students begin by completing sentences with commonly misused homophones and will do a quick review of literal versus figurative language.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on identifying, using, and explaining the meaning of adages used in a text. In the first instructional block students identify adages in a variety of different passages.
In the second instructional block students determine the meaning of adages used in passages and choose other adages that could be used based on similar meanings.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow students to practice the skill in context.
