This lesson is designed to support students in their understanding of the editing process. Specifically, this lesson focuses on how writers can join two independent clauses with an adverb. Students begin by sorting sentences in the category of problem or solution. Students then look at adverbs and adjectives and identify them in a passage.
The instructional block in this lesson focuses on conjunctive adverbs. Students will practice editing sentences to include the proper form of conjunctive adverbs which includes ensuring that the correct punctuation is used.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow students to practice the skill in context.
