This lesson is designed to support student understanding of how to analyze the plot elements in a fiction text. Students begin by sorting prefixes and reviewing plot elements.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on analyzing plot elements. In the first instructional block students define the terms: beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution and find examples of each in authentic passages.
In the second instructional block students find evidence from the text that best show an element of the plot.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow students to practice the skill in context.
