This lesson is designed to support student understanding of making inferences in a variety of texts. Students begin by sorting words into noun and verb categories and making inferences based off pictures.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on making inferences in fictional and informational texts.
In the first instructional block students read short fictional passages and make inferences about different characters' feelings by using clues in the texts.
In the second instructional block students make inferences about informational texts by looking for details and facts throughout the text.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow students to practice the skill in context.
