Read More:
This lesson is designed to support student understanding of identifying key ideas in a text that are important to the overall meaning. Students begin by completing a paragraph with a correct word that contains a digraph and by discussing a weekend memory with a partner distinguishing between minor details and key ideas.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on determining the difference between key ideas that help to determine meaning and minor details that are less important to the overall meaning. In the first instructional block students are asked to decide which ideas from a text are key ideas and which are minor details.
In the second instructional block students are asked to identify the key idea(s) from a given text.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to provide a deeper understanding and intentional practice.
