        This lesson is designed to support student understanding of retelling a text to include all important details in a logical order and paraphrasing parts of a text to maintain meaning. Students begin by sorting words based on vowel sounds and defining retelling and paraphrasing.


        The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on retelling and paraphrasing texts in ways that maintain the original meaning and in a logical order. In the first instructional block focuses on retelling a text based on the order of events in a given passage.


        In the second instructional block students practice paraphrasing parts of a text, using different words while still maintaining the same meaning as the original text.
