This lesson is designed to support student understanding of how the words and language an author uses can help to contribute to the overall voice of a text. Students begin by completing sound boxes with trigraphs to create specific words and by looking at examples of how language can be used intentionally to create a given voice in a text.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on analyzing how specific words and phrases can intentionally be used by an author to contribute to the overall voice of a text. In the first instructional block students focus on determining the voice of a text by identifying certain words that help to create that voice.
In the second instructional block students continue to determine the author's voice by identifying specific words and phrases that contribute to that voice.
Passages are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support deeper understanding and allow practice in authentic texts.
