TEKS 2.8B: Classify and Sort 3D Figures
Classify and Sort Three-Dimensional Shapes
About this lesson
Learning Target: I can identify parts of a 3D shapes and use them to identify shapes.
Focuses On:
- Identifying parts of a 3D shape
- Identifying 3D shapes based on their parts
Builds On:
K.6B
Identify three-dimensional solids, including cylinders, cones, spheres, and cubes, in the real world
1.6E
Identify three-dimensional solids including spheres, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms (including cubes), and triangular prisms, and describe their attributes using formal geometric language
Next Level:
3.6A
Classify and sort two-and three-dimensional figures, including cones, cylinders, spheres, triangular and rectangular prisms, and cubes, based on attributes using formal geometric language

This lesson is designed to support student understanding of three-dimensional solids
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on identifying parts of a 3D shape and identifying 3D shapes based on their parts.
In the first instructional block, students learn the different parts of a 3D shape such as face, edge and vertices.
The second instructional block focuses on how to identify a 3D shape based on their parts.
Scaffolds and supports such as pictorial representations of 3D shapes are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support conceptual learning.
