This lesson is designed to support student understanding of modeling division problems.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on creating equal groups and using repeated subtraction as a way to solve division problems.
In the first instructional block, students practice breaking up a set of objects into equal groups by focusing on ensuring that there is the same number of objects in each group.
The second instructional block focuses on students solving division problems through repeated subtraction.
Scaffolds such as pictorial representations, supported expressions and visual models are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support conceptual learning.
