This lesson is designed to give students practice with addition within 20.
Students will practice counting on in the first instructional block. Using the bigger number as a starting point, students will count on versus starting from 1. Pictorial models are built into the activities to support student understanding.
The second instructional block focuses on using the number line as a way to add numbers. Students will start at the bigger number and make jumps in order to get to the sum. Similar to the first instructional block, pictorial models of number lines are built into the activities as a way to support student thinking.
