This lesson is designed to support student understanding of creating numbers that are greater than and less than a target number.
The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on greater than and less than.
In the first instructional block, students practice identifying numbers that are greater than a target number. Students will also practice increasing a target number by one, ten and one hundred in order to anchor their understanding of greater than as it relates to place value.
The second instructional block focuses on identifying numbers that are less than a target number. Students will practice creating numbers that are one, ten and one hundred less than a given number.
Scaffolds such as supported expressions and visual models are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support conceptual learning.
