        The two instructional blocks in this lesson focus on using place value and different representations to decompose numbers.  


        In the first instructional block, students use base ten blocks and place value discs to decompose a number. 


        The second instructional block focuses on using different representations and regrouping to decompose a number.


        Scaffolds and supports such as pictorial models and tools are intentionally built throughout the lesson to support conceptual learning.
